As Spring (if you can call it that) comes to an end we review what has been a very busy time with our lady members. We have had a number of important events on our golfing calendar.

The hotly contested 2018 Gold Medal Playoff took place early September, with Gail McDonald this year’s winner. Gail played beautiful golf, with a 74 nett on the day, congratulations Gail, a well-deserved winner. For her win, Gail received a beautiful pin and a massage donated by Jennifer Atmore Remedial Massage Therapist. Thank you so much to Jennifer for your ongoing support.

Our Captains V Presidents day was a very closely fought battle with the Presidents team coming out on top, with absolutely no help from the President or Vice President, who came stone motherless last! This event is always played in the best of spirits and this year was no exception, with the friendly banter starting on the practice putting green. The course was in great shape, looking resplendent with a sea of yellow and blue. A huge thank you to our sponsors for this day; Dot Hanlon and Sophie Foskett Beautiful Daze Beauty Therapy, your support each year is greatly appreciated.

We had 4 representatives in the Central Coast District Team (CCWGA) playing Matchplay against the Hunter River District Team (HRDGA) at Toukley. Kim Burke, Jude Tarran, Jo Spears and Jill McPherson played with the other members of this team in awful conditions, coming home victorious, 10.5 to 4.5.

The GNSW Womens Fourball Par Championship was held at Wyong, with 3 teams representing SBGC. Roz Evatt and Sally Harrold, along with Wendy Stapleton and Jen Siegel, Nancy Hill and Kristine White played on a course that was a little damp in places, but in good condition given the terrible weather preceding the event. The umbrellas did have to come up a few times but all in all a great day. Unfortunately, we didn’t bring home any trophies.

Many of our ladies competed in our annual Pro Am. The course was in pristine condition, showcasing our club to all in attendance. Three of our members were in the winning team; Jo Brown, Marg Lowe and Donna Pike, along with their Pro Gillian Rae. Congratulations ladies, how exciting for you.

The signature event on our golfing calendar, the Club Championships, was played in very difficult conditions to say the least. Our members braved horrendous weather during the second round, which was eventually abandoned, resulting in the championships being reduced from 54 holes to 36. Our last day provided much better conditions and some very happy players, in particular our winners. The 2018 Division 1 Champion is Kim Burke, Division 2 Champion, June Brennan and Division 3 Champion, Sandra Cearns. Our junior Champion is Jess Lamaro. Congratulations to all our winners and a huge thank you to our Gold Sponsor – Design by Kath Ifield, Silver Sponsor – Gordon Haggerty Builders, Bronze Sponsors – Tee Time Golf Apparel; your generosity is greatly appreciated.

Our very popular Top Gal Event was another success, albeit held on a day of difficult conditions, particularly the 3rd, 4th and 5th hole. Well done to everyone who competed and to the spectators who braved the weather to support the ladies. This year we had an inaugural wild card, who went on to win. Congratulations Ally Gale, you hung in there, playing great golf and keeping your cool. Big thanks to Chris Beaumont for once again organising a great event.

Our AGM was held 24 October with 72 attendees. Matters arising from the previous minutes were addressed, annual reports tabled and accepted, following questions from the floor. A number of items of new business were taken from floor, which will be reviewed by the committee, with updates to be provided to the members.

The Triennial system was explained, highlighting the Captains position and two general committee positions were open. Our outgoing Captain, Toni McSweeney was thanked for her passion and commitment over the last five years.

This year’s Invitation Day was a resounding success, with 172 players competing in perfect conditions. We welcomed 66 visitors from 19 clubs enjoying our amazing course, great food and even better company. The winners on the were Jan Cummins and Gloria Boyd-Skinner with their guests Suzanne Brown from Manely and Mony Cheang from Wrandwick
Upcoming events: Mega Raffle Day 21 November, Gala Day 5 December and culminating in our “Roaring Twenties Christmas Party “, Friday 7th December.

Our thoughts have been with several of our members lately. Cecillie Robertson lost her beloved Harry Duckitt, Harry was a lifelong member of SBGC and an absolutely top bloke, RIP Harry.

A few of our members have been in the wars lately. Wishing them all a speedy recovery; Rosie Moore, Adrienne Tinkler, Suzanne Roberts-Noble and Kath Ifield. We look forward to seeing you all out on the course ASAP.

Till next time, happy golfing.

Jennifer Siegel
