LADIES REPORT – FEBRUARY 2019

It is with a heavy heart that I have to start this report with letting you know the sad news that we lost our patroness Vera Fuller on Tuesday 15th January.

Vera joined Tuggerah Lakes Golf Club in 1960, going on to have a very active role on the Associates Committee, holding positions of Handicapper, Club Captain and President. At district level she also held the position of Vice President.

She won the Club Championships in 1969 and several Foursome titles with partners Jenny Swadling, Jenny Abrahams and Gerry Lavender, as well as numerous Monthly Medals and Gold Medals. She was a representative in pennants for 32 years. Her pride of place though being her Gold Putter she received for her Hole in One in 1965. She played golf for over 50 years, well into her eighties.

This outstanding commitment to her golf and Tuggerah Lakes/Shelly Beach Golf Club, led to Vera being named our Lady Patroness in 2001. She is remembered as “A Lady of Golf”

We welcome three new members that have joined us. Leanne Allomes and Linda Hodges are new to the game and have come through the Tyro’s program. Dayna Rana, previously a member at Mudgee, has returned to the game after a few years break. Welcome ladies and we look forward to sharing a game with you!

The Ladies Summer Foursomes were played at Bayview Golf Club 14 and 15 January. Shelly Beach was very well represented with Jude Tarran/Kim Buke and Ann Baker/Steph Rapmund {Mangrove Mountain} in Div 1. Eunice de Vries/Emma de Vries in Div 2 and Kate Black/myself in Div 3.

Jude and Kim qualified to go on and play the knockout Match Play on the Tuesday. They were 3 down after 9 and fought back hard to win 1 up and move on to the final. They were victorious coming away winners 2/1.Congratulation Jude and Kim!

Volkswagen Scramble was held on the last day of our summer calendar. We had 26 teams, 104 entrants. The biggest field ever of ladies all from the one club! Because of our huge numbers, Shelly Beach will be represented with two teams at the state finals to be held at Riverside Golf Club on Thursday 21st March.

Congratulations to our runners up Sue Bendeich, Maragret Oakley, Robyn Tweed and Cathy Stoltz.

To our winners, with a comeback bigger than Tiger Woods….. Kath Ifield, Toni Sweeney, Mandy Giddings and Mel Bensley. Congratulations!!

Looking forward to seeing you all opening day 6th February.

Good golfing to you all for 2019.

Warmest Wishes.
